Program Implementation
Whatcom Smart Trips Implementation & Program Measurement
Whatcom Smart Trips was launched in July of 2006. Since then, transportation professionals from many communities around the United States and Canada have contacted us, asking about various elements of the program. Linked below are a slideshow and notes explaining how we have implemented the program here in Whatcom County, Washington. We intend these materials to include the kinds of details that transportation professionals would need to know to implement something similar in their community.
Also included below is a video presentation of 2004 — 2009 transportation survey data from Bellingham, the largest city in Whatcom County. The data show significant reductions in vehicle trips and vehicle miles as a result of the Smart Trips program in general, and specifically, the 2008 Neighborhood Smart Trips campaign, which targeted one-third of Bellingham households.
If you have questions about these materials, please see the contact information at the end of the slide show.
